Who Is Chhotu

In India, it is common to call a child “Chhotu” when we are unaware of his name, especially when he is involved in begging or child labour. So people often call them ‘Chhotu’. These children often lack a recognized identity. To address this, our organization named itself Chhotu Foundation, which aims to provide these children with the dignity of name and identity.

Chhotu Foundation is a non-governmental organization dedicated to the advancement of social welfare across diverse communities. Our mission is rooted in the belief that every child deserves access to education and the fulfillment of their basic needs. With unwavering dedication, we strive to create a brighter future for underprivileged children, empowering them to reach their full potential.

"Population Control Campaign"

India is home to over 1.4 billion people, making it the most populous country in the world. "Birthday Joy"

Our initiative aims to uplift the importance of your special day by transforming it into an extraordinary experience for those who’ve never had the opportunity to celebrate their own birthdays. Numerous children from underprivileged backgrounds have yet to experience the delight of a birthday festivity or savor the sweetness of cake. By channeling your celebration, we aspire to bring joy into their lives.

"Winter Warmth"

In our winter initiative, we provide warm clothes, shoes, and woolen caps to those who cannot afford them, ensuring they are protected from the harsh weather. These essential items offer not only physical warmth but also a sense of comfort and security to those in need. Our little efforts make them feel safe in the winter.

"Story of Sheds"

The weather isn’t the same for everyone. Some people like the rain, but not everyone can enjoy it, especially those who live in slums. When it rains, they face problems like water leaking into their jhopdis. It makes it hard for them to sleep comfortably. That’s why we provide tripals (sheds) to protect them from the rain and make their lives a little better.

"Happy Meal"

Recognizing that bread is the cornerstone of life and sustenance, we launched the Happy Meal initiative with this principle in mind. While it’s said that God feeds all, hunger remains a restless companion for many. Unfortunately, for those in need, securing even two meals a day can be a daunting task.

"Beyond Begging"

Numerous women are involved in begging and laborious work. Chhotu foundation’s objective is to furnish them with essential items, ensuring that our assistance is offered in a manner that preserves their dignity. We aspire for them to perceive our support not as charity, but as a victory, instilling a sense of self-worth and dignity.

Tyohaar Sabka

"Tyohaar Sabka"

You may have encountered challenges during festivals in your childhood, such as not having new clothes for Diwali, toys for Christmas, or even essential ration at home. With this in mind, we launched this initiative to ensure that others don’t experience similar hardships during their festive celebrations.

"Solar Project"

Considering the challenges faced by individuals residing in slums without access to electricity, chhotu foundation initiated a program to distribute solar lights instead of traditional lamps during Diwali. Our goal is to illuminate their lives and alleviate the darkness they experience.

"Pad Bank"

The Pad Bank initiative by Chhotu Foundation addresses a critical and often overlooked issue: menstrual hygiene. In India, an estimated 70% of women cannot afford sanitary napkins, leading to the use of unhygienic alternatives like rags, ash, or leaves. This lack of access results in increased health risks

Story of Change

Bhagwan Das, whose life revolved
around labor work. Every day, he toile
under the scorching sun, earning his
livelihood through sheer determination
and hard work. His tasks were arduous,
yet he persevered, knowing
that his labor was essential for survival.
However, fate took a cruel turn
one fateful day. While working at
a construction site, Bhagwan Das
suffered a tragic accident, plummeting
from a terrace and severely damaging
his spinal cord. The injury left him
incapacitated, unable to sit or walk
without excruciating pain.
His elder brother, also a laborer, struggled
to manage Bhagwan Das's medical expenses,
scraping together every penny to
afford his treatment.

Lakshmi, a remarkable young woman,
faced life's challenges from the moment
she entered this world without both
hands or a pair of legs. Throughout
her journey from childhood to adulthood
, she relied on the support of others,
particularly her devoted mother
who provided her with the tender care
she needed.
The sheer difficulty of navigating daily
tasks without the full use of her limbs
was unfathomable.
Despite her physical limitations,
Lakshmi displayed an incredible
resilience. She tackled numerous tasks
independently, such as feeding herself,
washing clothes, and even
writing her own name.

Vikas, a bright-eyed 10-year-old boy,
resided in a modest jhopdi, his mobility
restricted by a condition affecting both
his legs. With parents toiling
away as laborers, their absence
from home throughout the day
meant Vikas couldn't receive
the care he needed. Unable to
walk, he yearned to venture outdoors
like other children, often relying
on others to pull him out
of his dwelling. The harsh reality
was that amidst the hustle
and bustle of daily life, Vikas often
found himself soiled from being
dragged across the ground.

Aashu, a young girl whom
I encountered while she was
soliciting alms on the street with
her tricycle, left a profound impression
on me. It took some time for me to
discern whether she was begging of her
own volition or if she was being
compelled by someone else.
Upon approaching Aashu and
engaging her in conversation,
I learned of the tragic
circumstances that had befallen her.
She had lost both her legs in a train
accident and was now forced
to rely on begging for survival,
as her family had abandoned her.

Pooja, a 23-year-old girl residing in Bihar,
bears a story that echoes the profound
impact of a childhood illness.
At the tender age of 4, she was struck
by a fever known as Chimki, an ailment
prevalent in Bihar. The aftermath of this fever
or its offshoot robbed Pooja of the trajectory
of a normal life. Her physical development
ceased, rendering her perpetually
dependent on others, frozen in a state
of helplessness reminiscent of her 4-5-year-old self.
This affliction cast a shadow over every
aspect of Pooja's existence. Unable to walk or sit,
she found herself confined to a bed,
incapable of performing even the
simplest tasks. The prospect of returning
to school, where Pooja once excelled
as a bright student, seemed like an
unattainable dream after the onset of the illness.
